The Hypocrisy of the “War on Terror

America’s war on terror sounds wonderful to any ear, the words rest upon heart and ear as a cause based in necessity; but America is not fighting terrorists, the war on terror mere word play designed to garnish your support.  America is fighting a war, to be certain, but terrorists are being supplied and funded, not fought. This war is against sovereign nations with America using terrorist organizations’ as allies in attempts to remove the governments of sovereign nations, it is past time “we the people’ take note.

We see a definite pattern developing in wars and civil wars being assisted and/or engaged in by America and her allies. We have witnessed these wars globally in excess of 10 years which grants us the ability to see the reality of this war clearly in places such as Syria today. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a set of interviews she gave in Tunisia said;

“To whom are you delivering [the arms]?” Clinton asked. “We know al-Qaeda. Zawahiri is supporting the opposition in Syria. Are we supporting al-Qaeda in Syria?” (Badran)

Zawahiri in interviews reported by Press TV has admitted that al-Qaeda is inside Syrian borders and has joined with Syrian opposition forces in an effort to oust Al-Assad from power, and US intelligence reports are in agreement.  (Landay)

Syria has a secular government, and as such affords such things as religious freedom, something any American would agree is good, yet, Syrian opposition forces have categorically stated this will be the first thing removed from public policy when they obtain power;

“It is time to come back home and rule the Syrian Muslim people who live under the umbrella of the secular regime that supports and protects the principles of tolerance, and guarantees the freedom of thinking and embracing whatever belief the people choose. Such a freedom was the main reason that made the other non-Muslim sects of the Syrian people able to step forward and have a rank and a good contribution in the Syrian life, and also share the wealth with the Muslims on their own land. It is time for us to come back and force all the other non-Muslim sects to shrink and step back. These sects are the infidel Christians, the criminal Alawites and the infidel Druzes.” (The Truth about Syria)

The first question in anyone’s mind is why the American government is showing full support of this group, a party deemed terrorists to whom it is illegal under the Patriot Act to fund.

 It is unlawful for a person in the United States or subject to the jurisdiction of the United States to knowingly provide “material support or resources” to a designated FTO. (The term “material support or resources” is defined in 18 U.S.C. § 2339A(b) as “currency or monetary instruments or financial securities, financial services, lodging, training, expert advice or assistance, safehouses, false documentation or identification, communications equipment, facilities, weapons, lethal substances, explosives, personnel, transportation, and other physical assets, except medicine or religious materials.”)

The American government is breaking laws created by them, or at the very least turning the other cheek in encouraging other countries to fund them. The reasoning is seen in statements like this one by Senator John McCain;

“McCain, the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said the goal of airstrikes should be to create safe havens in the country for opposition forces to plan their own political and military attacks against Assad. The benefit of the United States leading the military effort, he said, is that it would allow the U.S. to better empower Syrian groups that support U.S. interests to move toward a democratic transition. “If we stand on the sidelines, others will try to pick winners, and this will not always be to our liking or in our interest,” he said.” (John McCain Calls For U.S.-Led Airstrikes On Syria )

When a general amnesty given by the Syrian government to all protesters and an offer of talks aimed at resolving the conflict inside Syrian borders the US State Department advised the opposition group not to accept this amnesty and to continue the fight aimed at removing Al-Assad from power. (Sandels)

This is unequivocal proof that the American government is supporting terrorism with full knowledge, breaking US law with an end goal of putting into power leaders sympathetic to US interests. This is not happening/ has not happened to Syria alone, we have seen it recently in Tunis, Egypt and Libya as well. It is a pattern of terrorist support the peoples of the world can little afford. The principles of freedom, of democracy, and the rights of the peoples are not being taken into consideration. Sovereign nations are fighting a war against terror, a very real one, against a very real evil, right now. American priorities should be lying with governments who are fighting this war, and not with terrorists.

Americans have the ability to act, we can write or call our Senators and Congressmen and tell them citizens will not support any effort made by the American government to aid terrorists. In no uncertain terms will the good citizens of this country support a war against a sovereign nation who is fighting terrorism on its own soil. It is time to speak out.
